Rash of Holiday Burglaries Hit Rio Del Mar Area
More than a half-dozen homes within a few blocks of each other were burglarized around the Thanksgiving holiday.

Streets hit included Ewell, Augusta, Spyglass and Dorsey, not far from the Deerpark Shopping Center in Rio Del Mar.

Most of the homes were entered through the back, often by broken windows or doors pried open, said Sgt. Greg Lansdowne. Money and jewelry – in one case as much as $12,200 worth – were taken.

In the large jewelry theft, a safe was forced open to get the items.

The thief or thieves were apparently scared off at one home on Spyglass where an alarm was triggered.

The first incident was reported on Wednesday, Nov. 25, on Dorsey, with the others apparently occurring on Thanksgiving Day when the occupants were away.
