Eight Candidates Confirmed for Capitola Council Race
By Michael Thomas
The race to fill three seats on Capitola’s City Council has officially begun. All but one of the nine potential candidates who took out nomination papers completed the filing process by the Aug. 11 deadline.

In alphabetical order, the candidates are:

â€" Bob Begun, currently the City’s Treasurer. Begun has promised to work for economic development and fiscal responsibility.

â€" Ron Graves, a longtime former Council member. Graves believes his experience on the Council will preserve institutional memory in a period of heavy turnover.

â€" Gail Levey, an Internet marketing developer for West Marine. Levey is a committed community volunteer who supports business development and commonsense governance.

â€" Maureen O’Malley-Moore, a policy analyst for Santa Clara County Supervisors. O’Malley Moore has served on the city’s Housing Committee and claims a strong grasp of public policy.

â€" Ed Newman, a real estate lawyer and Planning Commissioner. Newman is concerned about the city’s special projects, including Rispin and talk of purchasing the creekside Golino property.

â€" Daniel Passino, owner of the Beach House restaurant. Passino is a Planning Commissioner and chairs the Village Master Plan Committee. He ran for Council in 2004.

â€" Boris Seibert, an inside sales director for Plantronics. Seibert, 36, brings youthful perspective to the race and has participated in local non-profit fundraising events.

â€" Sam Storey, Executive Director of Community Bridges. Storey has a legal background and more than two decades experience with the agency that provides LiftLine, child care and Family Resource Centers for the County. He believes Measure P may need to be renewed in three years.
