County Superintendent of Schools Must be Experienced
There is only one candidate for County Superintendent of Schools who has my support. As a teacher for many years in this County, I supported Diane Siri when she ran for County Superintendent of Schools because she had many years of classroom experience, district experience, and business expertise to bring to the County Office. In addition, her child was educated in the local public schools.
Rowland Baker also has that breadth and depth of experience. He was born and raised in Santa Cruz County. His experience as a student, a teacher, a parent, and an administrator of schools has been in the Santa Cruz County Schools. He knows our schools inside-out.
Not only does he know the county schools, but he has the support of the district superintendents of schools, principals from across the County, and many teachers who’ve worked with him either in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District where he was both a classroom teacher and a principal, or the Soquel School District where he served as principal.
Who does the County Superintendent work with? It’s the superintendents of schools across the County. Who else does that person work with? The State Department of Education and State Superintendent of Schools.
Who’s in the best position to do this: Rowland Baker, bar none.
He’s a man of integrity with a vision of what will serve the needs of all students in this county. He supports the charter schools in addition to the other public schools. He believes all students are able to reach goals, including passing the California High School Exit Exam.
His experience as Assistant Superintendent of County Schools gives him a unique insight into what the job entails. He understands the complexity and challenges of the position.
I have no qualms supporting him as a successor to Dr. Siri.
He’s got my vote. I have confidence he’ll do a great job with our district superintendents, school principals, teachers, and most importantly, for all our students.

Support Libby Wilson
I am writing in support of Libby Wilson for Area One (Aptos and Corralitos) PVUSD board of trustees. I’ve known Libby for 13 years as a parent volunteer on various school committees, Home and School, and booster clubs, at Valencia, Aptos Junior, and Aptos High. Libby has willingly taken key positions putting her positive energy towards continuous improvement of our schools for the best education possible for all our students.
Libby has a keen business management sense and has been fundamental in raising much-needed money for our schools. She has taken steps to stay knowledgeable of standards and the role of a trustee. Libby understands what direction our school district should go and has the dedication and commitment to make it work. I encourage all in PVUSD Area One to vote for Libby Wilson for trustee on Nov. 7. Dirty Politics?
We are the campaign managers for Kim Turley and Libby Wilson, school board candidates for the two Pajaro Valley Unified School District trustee seats in Aptos.
For the last three weeks our committees have been putting up signs for our candidates, with permission from property owners. Last weekend (Sept. 30 and Oct. 1) all Kim's signs and most of Libby's, large and small, were stolen or destroyed between 11:30 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday. This included signs placed on private residences.
The cost to us is close to $1,500, money that came from small donations by many community members.
What is quite amazing is that our opponents' signs are being put up just as ours are being stolen. Also amazing is that political signs for other races, next to ours, were untouched. It was a blatant attack aimed at our two candidates.
Turley and Wilson have filed reports with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's office and hope for a quick resolution.
Kim Turley (Area 7) and Libby Wilson (Area 1) have given up much of their time to make the PVUSD a better place for ALL the children and will continue to do so.
Are our opponents so afraid of our candidates that they feel it is necessary to destroy our campaign signs in order to win? This is a local school board race, about students and education. Why this? What other dirty games will be played?
