sAccording to the American news site AxiosAnthony Blinken is expected to travel to the Middle East next week, after joining Joe Biden on his trip to Brussels and Poland.
At a time when US relations with many of its partners and allies in the region were strained, Blinken’s original itinerary included stops in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. However, after making several changes to travel dates, these tours have been discontinued.
Thus, the foreign minister is expected to arrive in Israel on Saturday, where she is scheduled to hold talks with Israeli officials in Jerusalem and Palestinian officials in Ramallah. Blinken must then head to Morocco, from Israel, and then join Algeria from Morocco.
Thus, this is Blinken’s first visit to Morocco since his appointment as Secretary of State, and his last visit was in July 2016, when he served as Assistant Secretary of State, under the Obama administration.
According to the American media, “US officials said Blinken wants to use the visit to demonstrate continued US involvement in the regionOn condition of anonymity.
