In a fiery speech before the European Parliament, the Italian Member of the European Parliament, Silvia Sardoni, who represents the conservative League Party and serves as a member of the Milan City Council, delivered a resounding condemnation of the European Union’s position on Islamic napkins.
He accused the European Union of hypocrisy in its support of Iranian women while supporting the hijab, sparking a deep debate about Islam’s threat to women’s rights.
As he said:
“I am ashamed of the European Union that pretends to support the protest of Iranian women (oppressed by the Islamic regime)!”
I feel ashamed that you are the ones promoting true Islam at your events.
We have seen the hijab presented in a positive way in the communications and social networks of European institutions for years.
We have seen it at the Future of Europe conference, at youth events, in environmental publications, on Human Rights Day, on Gender Equality Day, and even on the Day against Homophobia.
I am ashamed of the European Union’s bowing down to Islam.
“I am ashamed of the European Union, which sees the Islamic hijab as a tool for integration and cultural pluralism while oppressing women.”
