AMD’s Zen 5 Series Promises Haven’t Fulfilled – AMD

AMD’s new Ryzen 9 9950X processor has proven to be just 3% faster on average than its predecessor, according to recent tests.

This news comes as a relief to tech enthusiasts, who were eagerly awaiting the launch of the company’s new Zen 5 series, which was delayed by several days.

Analysts Devices are not packedAfter extensive testing in various usage scenarios, I came to disappointing conclusions. In a set of 13 games tested at 1080p using an RTX 4090 graphics card, the 9950X was only 1% faster than the Ryzen 9 7950X. Essentially, the new AMD offers similar performance to the model released two years ago.

The picture doesn’t improve in the productivity area either. In applications like Cinebench, Blender, and photo editing in Photoshop, the improvements are marginal. In fact, in compression and decompression tasks, there was again a performance drop compared to the two-year-old model.

Steve Burke from Players Network These results confirm the argument that the 7950X remains a better choice for productivity tasks, while the 7800X3D still excels at gaming.

This stands in stark contrast to AMD’s promises at Computex 2024 of significant performance improvements in both productivity and gaming. The company had described the Zen 5 series as a “huge leap” that it was “very proud of” at a press conference earlier this year.

Popular tech YouTuber JayzTwoCent called the release a “failure,” a sentiment that seems to be shared by many in the community. The disappointment is even greater since many have looked to AMD for instability issues with Intel’s recent processors (13th and 14th gen).

This creates a gap in the high-performance market that Intel could exploit with its upcoming Arrow Lake series, expected later this year. Enthusiasts and tech professionals looking for the highest levels of performance are now turning to Intel’s next step.
