At full speed on the road to the abyss…

At full speed on the road to the abyss…

Written by Todoris Giannaro*

For years, Turkey has been facing a strategic nightmare, with fear in its cities, bombings, and renewed conflict with the Kurds, while the Turkish border is a completely barren vineyard, the economy is in a deep recession, and its former allies have systematically ignored its wishes or demands… and it lacks any spare parts for its war machine that is the heart of this country…

A few years ago, Erdogan’s Turkey was the first winner of the famous “Arab Spring,” viewed by the West as a “model state,” and by the wider region as a leading regional power. But everything changed with geopolitical developments and the civil war in Syria.

“Turkey is facing a multi-layered catastrophe. The country has had problems in the past, but the momentum now is beyond Ankara’s ability to handle it. No one trusts it anymore, and it has been given the title of a country without dignity and without honor.” Shame.

Turkey has never been able to win the support of its most important ally – America, against the Syrian Kurds who are still fighting the Islamic State, which it supported until yesterday in various ways and the Erdogan family earned millions of dollars smuggling stolen oil. As much as Turkey does not admit it, it is completely isolated, accepting from the West only what is absolutely necessary, and has become entangled in a maze of problems, many of which it itself created thanks to its unbridled fanaticism.

It has ruined its relations with almost the entire world, except for Pakistan, Iran and the Turkic-speaking countries, and is now unable to convince anyone of its good intentions. Erdogan’s words no longer carry any weight, he never keeps his word, he is a hypocrite and fights only for his own pocket, where the main role is to maintain power in any way, so he cannot support the interests of his country. To be at odds with everyone, even with its allies. For a country that seeks to be seen as a strong regional power, all these events are devastating.

Erdogan was ready to invade Syria, but he didn’t even have the support of his country’s armed forces. He wanted to create a small-scale conflict with Greece, but his plans didn’t work, just as he failed miserably in Evros in 2019, when he tried to flood the European Union with illegal migrants, who had previously been detained by his own gendarmerie.

Erdogan is pushing his country into a dead end forever, and there will be no escape from it soon, not even backwards, because of the strategy he is following, which is besieging Turkey.

All the war fronts he has created and all the other fronts he threatens from time to time are vital and a matter of survival for him and his family, but no one can be certain of the developments that will occur from now on!

The truth is that the great and proud Carthage fought three wars. After the first, it remained relatively strong. After the second, it was still habitable. But after the third, it was impossible to locate it on the map…
