German intelligence: warning of possible use of chemical weapons by Russia in Ukraine
German magazine Der Spiegel reported that The heads of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND). Bruno Kahl, Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) Thomas Haldenwang and Military Intelligence (MAD) Martina Rosenberg warned the German parliament that Russia might launch a nuclear strike on Ukraine and that Russian intelligence might carry out political assassinations on German soil.
Kahl and Haldenwang made similar statements in the German parliament, which meets in public once a year to hear assessments of the current situation from intelligence chiefs.
The head of the BfV announced that the war in Ukraine It “changed the rules of the game” in all areas of politics and posed a direct threat to Germany’s internal security. Haldenwang said 40 Russian spies were deported from Germany in April, “but that’s not all.”
As the head of the Bfv himself claims that “the operational level of the Russian intelligence services in Germany has decreased”, the Bfv has drawn up scenarios, which consider the possibility of organizing political assassinations by Russian intelligence services on German soil.
He warned the German parliament that Putin could use “semi-strategic nuclear weapons”. In the opinion of the head of the German Federal Intelligence Service, the Russian government may try to impose peace on Ukraine on unfavorable terms. He claims that there is no sign of a compromise on the Russian side.
His statements are just guesswork. Spiegel magazine clarified that the German Federal Intelligence Service has no evidence that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons.
