iPhone 14 troubleshooting spoils with roller coasters – Apple

New troubleshooting feature iPhone 14which is supposed to alert the authorities when they find out you’ve been in a car accident, has an unexpected glitch: It calls the police when you’re on a rollercoaster.

According to her posts The Wall Street JournalOn many occasions, this feature has landed police in a park, after confusing the turns, turns and hard braking of a roller coaster ride for a true emergency.

Apple implemented collision detection with the news iPhone 14And the Watch Series 8and SE and Ultra Last month, the devices were equipped with a gyroscope sensor and accelerometer that were “trained” on the impacts they experience with simulated car collisions. If the sensors detect you’ve had an accident, your iPhone will display an alert and call emergency services if you don’t dismiss it within 20 seconds.

When you call the police, a voice message will be played to alert the authorities that you have had an accident, and will also provide them with your location. An Apple Watch with fault detection can only alert authorities if the user has an iPhone with them or is connected to a cellular or Wi-Fi network.

This is exactly what many users’ Apple devices have done, but at the wrong time. In a tweet, WSJ reporter Joanna Stern shared an example of an instant action call that was made while an iPhone 14 owner was on a rollercoaster at Kings Island amusement park in Cincinnati. While the automated message is playing, muffled screams can be heard in the background as the roller coaster runs its course.

Last month, Stern put Apple’s fault-detection feature to the test in a demolition derby-style experiment and found it to be completely unreliable. Although Crash Detection recently helped identify and alert authorities to a fatal accident in Nebraska, the feature clearly has its weaknesses. Google Pixel smartphones have had similar functionality for the past three years, without noticing a similar malfunction.

Stern reports that Warren County, where Kings Island is located, has received six emergency calls for park rides since the iPhone 14 was launched. It also noted that other users have experienced similar problems at theme parks across the country.
