Completion of the agreement naturally depends on its completeness Activision Blizzard acquisition The software giant announced that Microsoft is worth $69 billion. The deal could be extended further after the initial period, and Microsoft is committed to expanding the number of platforms people can play games on, Xbox president Phil Spencer told Bloomberg News. Microsoft also said it is committed to bringing Call of Duty to Valve Corp.’s Steam platform. At the same time it will be released on Xbox.
The company made a similar offer to Sony to keep the famous Activision franchise on PlayStation, in succession, for a decade, but the Japanese company has so far rejected it, according to Spencer. Sony has been adamantly opposed to acquiring Activision, largely due to concerns that the US tech giant might make content like Call of Duty exclusive to its gaming services.
“This deal, and especially its timing, clearly looks like Microsoft is trying to appease regulators,” said Tokyo-based analyst Serkan Toto. “I find it difficult to imagine modern games in the Call of Duty series running on Nintendo’s current hardware, but the next Switch will certainly be able to handle such a game.”
On Wednesday, Microsoft executives are scheduled to meet with US Federal Trade Commission Chair Lena Khan and other commissioners to present their final case on the deal. According to Bloomberg.
“We plan to be on more screens,” said Spencer. “We have a good idea of how we can build a win-win relationship with Nintendo and of course with Sony.”
