A model known as SpecterDev open The jailbreak, which is described as an experimental exploit of the IPV6 kernel that takes advantage of the WebKit vulnerability.
Based on early information, it appears that the jailbreak only works on PS5s running firmware version 4.03 or earlier. If you have updated your PS5 since last October, chances are that you will not be able to test the exploit. However, even if the console has one of the “compatible” firmware versions, it seems that trying to install the jailbreak only works in a third of the cases.
If you’re wondering what you can actually do with a jailbroken PS5 now, you’ll first get to the system debugging menu. You may also be able to install games from outside the PlayStation Store, but they won’t work.
Modder Lance McDonald tried the jailbreak and was able to install Hideo Kojima’s PT PS4 demo for the scrapped Silent Hills. However, MacDonald was unable to “run” the game. While the exploit offers read/write capability on the PS5, there is currently no way to execute sideloaded files.
In any case, this jailbreak is not likely to be widely used, given its limitations and the fact that Sony may ban depositor accounts. In addition, there is a risk that when you try to install it, the console will break, at a time when the PS5 is still difficult to buy. However, the new jailbreak can provide a basis from which hackers and other depositors can create more powerful jailbreaking tools.
