Scientists have discovered an asteroid larger than the Colosseum heading to Earth

Experts from the Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences said that an asteroid 500 meters wide is heading to Earth.

Experts from the Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences have confirmed that a huge asteroid is heading towards Earth. Sputnik confirmed, it was named 2022 SE37, is about half a kilometer wide and completes an orbit around the Sun every 3.44 years.

The Keldish Institute emphasized that the asteroid, although classified as “potentially dangerous,” does not pose a threat to Earth now or in the foreseeable future. An asteroid is classified as “potentially dangerous” when it is more than 460 feet (140 meters) in size and 75 kilometers from Earth. The asteroid is about 500 meters long, making it much larger than the Colosseum in Rome which is 190 by 155 meters wide.

According to experts, the upcoming asteroid was discovered using two observatories, one in the village of Kochivanchik in Russia and the other from Kuban State University. According to NASA, another asteroid called 2018 ER1, 26 meters wide, passed our planet from a distance of more than 56 kilometers on October 2. In addition, on October 3, we will see the 10-meter-wide asteroid 2022 SL28 at its closest distance of more than 16 kilometers from our planet.
