Grand Theft Auto VI – Rockstar’s first trailer is here

This news comes after Rockstar first confirmed it was actively developing a new Grand Theft Auto title in February 2022, although details have remained scarce. A subsequent Bloomberg post claimed that GTA VI would feature the series’ first female protagonist, inspired by Bonnie and Clyde, and would take place in a fictional Miami reminiscent of the Vice City map.

Last year, anticipation reached a fever pitch when dozens of early videos of the game in development were leaked online, showing a female character robbing a restaurant. Although clearly incomplete and with numerous issues, the leaks provided a first glimpse at Rockstar’s vision for the future of Grand Theft Auto. The leaks were attributed to an 18-year-old hacker who hacked into the systems of Rockstar, Uber, and Nvidia before he was eventually arrested.

If Rockstar gives an official name and location for GTA VI either this week or with the release of the trailer, there’s a chance they’ll finally announce a release schedule. The hugely successful Grand Theft Auto V, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, has translated into more than 185 million copies sold since its debut in 2013. GTA Online also continues to receive new content updates.

Most experts expect that Grand Theft Auto VI will be released in 2024 at the earliest, marking the first major development in the franchise in more than a decade.
