Jake Gyllenhaal has been wearing corrective lenses since he was about 6 years old, when he was born with a naturally corrected “lazy eye.”
However, for Gyllenhaal, blindness is an acting asset.
The 43-year-old actor recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how he uses his vision problem in his acting.
“I’d like to think it’s an advantage. I didn’t know any different. When I can’t see in the morning, before I put my glasses on, that’s where I can be with myself,” she told ET.
Gyllenhaal has stated that his vision problem sometimes improves his performance. When police told his character that his wife was dead in the 2015 boxing movie “Southpaw,” Gyllenhaal removed his communications to force himself to listen carefully.
In 2017 she spoke to The Telegraph about how wearing big glasses to school in Los Angeles caused unwanted attention and excitement.
“I was an easy target and I was always a sensitive child,” he said.
