Marathonos Street road crash: 88-year-old woman in custody – charged

Charges have been filed against an 88-year-old driver who allegedly caused a crash on Marathon Avenue yesterday.

The 88-year-old faces a charge of dangerous driving (PC 290A) and has been referred to an investigator to plead guilty. Until then she will remain a prisoner.

According to reports, the 88-year-old driver ran a red light and crashed into two other cars that were approaching the intersection on Marathon Avenue at the time. The collision was so violent that one car ran across the opposite sidewalk.

The deceased Navy lieutenant was a father of two

Two persons were trapped in a jeep belonging to the Navy (Navy Court). It was a 49-year-old naval lieutenant, father of two, who died from IX, and a 29-year-old sailor was seriously injured.

As seen in the following photos from the crash, the Navy Jeep was reduced to a shapeless piece of ironwork.

In a statement issued by the Naval Commander regarding the incident, he said:

“On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at noon, a Navy vehicle traveling on a scheduled route on Marathon Avenue was involved in a traffic accident, the Navy’s General Staff reports.

Specifically, an IX car violated a red light, resulting in a side-on collision between two vehicles, one of which was a Marine.

The circumstances and causes of the accident are being investigated by the 2nd Transport Department of Northeast Attica and the Marines, and their relatives have been informed about the incident.
