Karen Khachanov talked about his great victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas after six consecutive defeats.

Karen Khachanov, ranked No. 16 in the world rankings, made a huge upset in Indian Wells, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas, who had lost 6 losses to him in as many matches. Khachanov, who was on 23 consecutive matches against the world’s top ten players, achieved the victory with 7-6 (4) 6-4 in 93 minutes.

“They say I’m lucky for the third time, but it took 7 times, so I’m very happy. The most important thing is not that I beat Stefanos but the way I fought. After the Australian Open, I had some problems because of the injury. I came back to Dubai without playing many matches.” And I am happy to continue at this level. I wanted to continue like this, to enjoy the process, the journey that has continuity.”

Then the Russian pointed out the important elements that led him to victory: “I think limiting Tsitsipas was the key. We both did really well in the first set, then it went to the tie-break and in the second, when the opportunity came, I had to take it. These conditions are very fast, so I think it’s important to have a good first serve. And a good second strike. I think we played very aggressively, so whoever gets the chance is going to get the win.”
