Tsitsipas: With a big surprise in the third round of the brothers’ doubles

Stefanos and Petros Tsitsipas qualified for the third round of the doubles tournament at Roland Garros by defeating Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

The Tsitsipas brothers, the defending champions at Roland Garros, defeated Ivan Dodig and Austin Krycek 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 to book their ticket to the third round of the doubles tournament.

Although in the first set the Greek tennis players were not as competitive as they should have been, from the second onwards they put in an excellent performance and won the match… somersault. More specifically, in the opening set, the two teams competed alongside last year’s defending champions who broke a record in the seventh game. That was enough for the Tsitsipas brothers to once again find themselves on the scoresheet.

The second set began with both pairs holding their serve and eliminating any threat of a break. The score was tied at 5-5, at which point the Tsitsipas brothers counterattacked and after two rounds of the match made it 7-5 sending the match to the third set.

In the third set, the Greek tennis players had the momentum and only in the second game… they broke their opponents (2-0). They themselves were able to erase their opponents’ break points in the fifth game, while in the sixth game they did not take advantage of the opportunity for a new break. Stefanos and Petros Tsitsipas maintained the gap between the two matches, and the result was that they closed the set (6-3) in the ninth game and celebrated the qualification.

In the third round, the Tsitsipas brothers will face the winners of the Andreucci/Hijikata-Guinard/Zack match.
