When there is a major crisis, gold is offered as a bailout to the investor. Owning gold is viewed by many as the investment that provides security. Is it the traditional force of habit? Even today, however, at weddings and christenings, gold pounds are given. The gift that will be made no matter how many years have passed. Going back a few decades, a lot of Greek households built on their hard-earned savings — and it was nothing more than the gold pounds that were usually hidden under the mattress or in a chest in the kitchen cupboards.
Do the past and present have the same love of gold? Are investors still choosing it? The pros and cons of such a wallet, and what is the value of a pound of gold today? The new article attempts to answer the above questions Podcast by Christos Alonistiotisthe principal fund manager at XSpot Wealth, to be in his studio newsbest. “Gold is an investment product that can provide the investor with stability, in the sense that the returns that one will get after many years are not exceptional. However, in periods when any investment product has high volatility and can be found at -20 or -30% of its value, gold, in all likelihood, will not have such large volatility.notes Mr. Alonistiotis.It is an investment product where one can claim a reasonable return over time, but this is not the eternal reality. There are periods, as there were from 2008 until today, when someone who bought gold at their highest points still can’t get past them.”
With cash depreciating, and no interest on bank deposits, is gold the most important asset for a portfolio? The immediate answer is “no”. Apart from stability, it does not provide anything else, interest or income, and it cannot be considered a safe haven. Higher interest rates, for example, as they are now, are not positive for gold and its holders.
What are the most important types of pounds traded in the Greek market? “The simplest type of pounds one can find on the Greek market are England pounds with the face of Queen Elizabeth – those from before 1973 onwards. Greek investors with pounds usually have one of these two denominations.”.
If someone had 10 British pounds of gold, what would it be worth? “The family in which you can dispose of 10 pounds and its value ranges between 4,500 and 4,800 euros.”.
What is the value of a gold bar? “The bars that we see in the movies are loaded into the bags when they enter the safes and escape, they weigh 12.5 kg. Their value ranges between 735 and 750 thousand euros.”
Do market players invest in gold or do they choose different portfolios? “In recent years, gold has been surpassed in the investment concept. One could put him in a bag, in a small proportion, to give him stability in a period of turmoil.
