A couple cut with a homemade guillotine in India
A couple beheaded themselves using a self-made guillotine at their home in India.
38-year-old Himubhai Makwana and his 35-year-old wife, Hansabin, “cut off” their heads with guillotine As part of ritual sacrifice in India.
Local media reported that guillotine which they used, were arranged so that their heads would roll over an altar at their farm in Vidzhiya, Gujarat.
The Times of India reported that the bodies of their 13-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter were found on Sunday morning.
Authorities said the couple left a suicide note for their children, parents, and relatives before taking their own lives.
Sub-Inspector Indrajitsinh Jadeja, of the district police station, confirmed that the couple had used a “guillotine-like mechanism”.
“We are collecting statements from family members and trying to find out the reason for the extreme step taken by the couple,” he said.
He added that one day before the accident, the parents had sent their two children to their uncle’s house.
Police also said that over the past year, the couple had built a temporary temple using an image of Shiva, one of the main deities of Hinduism.
The bodies were sent for an autopsy.
