The CEO of an Indian artificial intelligence technology startup has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her four-year-old son after his body was found inside her bag, police said today.
Police said Soshana Seth, head of the Mental Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, was arrested in Chitradurga district of Karnataka state while returning by taxi from neighboring Goa state after her child's body was found in her bag.
Seth was detained and police said they did not know if she had already appointed a lawyer, while officials at the company she works for did not comment.
How did the Indian authorities track her down?
Goa police inspector Paresh Naik said Seth entered a hotel room in Goa with her son on Saturday, but the boy was not with her when she vacated the room on Monday evening.
Naik explained that the hotel cleaning staff found traces of blood in the room after the woman left and informed the police.
He continued that the police then contacted the taxi driver by phone and asked him to take Seth to the nearest police station.
“When we opened her bag, we found the body of the child,” North Goa police chief Nidin Valchan told reporters.
Goa police took Seth to her home state, Valsan said, adding that her husband was in Indonesia and was asked to return to India.
A local court ordered her detained for six days, ANI reported.
