Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler criticized Germany for refusing to agree to the sale of Eurofighter fighters to Turkey, expressing his optimism that Berlin would be convinced in the end.

In an interview with the Turkish television network NTV, Yaşar Guler said that Eurofighter is a good alternative for his country, and revealed that Turkey has been dealing with this issue for 2-3 years. The Turkish minister explained that Ankara is looking for an alternative solution, noting that “if we are able to implement the issues that we discussed with our friends, we may not need them.” But we need them now.”

He expressed optimism that the other Allies would be able to persuade Germany to back down on its objections: “Spain and England have no problem. That’s how it should be anyway. I mean we’re NATO members, and NATO is now against us getting this.” “Weapons. (The Germans) always have different excuses, you know.”

Yaser Guler said: “We are a member of NATO, but another member opposes the sale of these aircraft,” and commented, “There can be no explanation for an ally saying: I will not give you the aircraft.”

Regarding the ongoing negotiations in the United States regarding Turkey’s acquisition of F-16 fighter jets, the Turkish Defense Minister said that “there does not appear to be any problem at the present time.” In other words, we think everything is going well.”

At the same time, he stressed that Turkey has taken important steps and reached a very good point in its defense industry. He expressed his hope that Turkey would have developed its fifth generation fighter aircraft in the coming period and on December 27 the first flight of KAAN would take place, he said.

Yaşar Guler also responded to comments regarding the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft system, if it is installed and activated. He added: “The S-400 system is a defensive weapon. Did someone attack us and we didn’t use it? His question was rhetorical, and he said that “if anyone thinks that way, they will see what happens to them, when we need to use our defensive weapons, they will see what the S-400 or our other defensive systems will do.”
