the match

Mallorca, in their first good moment of the match, managed to take the lead. In stoppage time inside Athletic's penalty area, Copete was initially unable to score, but Daniel Rodriguez took advantage of the counter-attack and sent the ball into the net from close range.

Athletic were now back on the scoreboard and pressing for an equalizer and had chances to do so with Gorotheta and the Williams brothers (Nico and Inaki) but Griff stepped in when needed.

In the second half, Mallorca had a chance in the opening seconds from a brilliant pass from Larin, but Agirithambala showed reflexes and pulled away. Santhet's equalizer came in the 50th minute after an assist from Neco Williams.

The Basques were the ones who continued to put pressure on the opponent's tires and were the ones who initiated the moves, but they did not succeed in scoring a golden goal, sending the match into extra time.

In the first part of extra time, the same pattern continued. Athletic had possession and were pressing and Mallorca were waiting in their own half and trying to threaten on the counter-attack. Valverde brought Muniain into the match in extra time and threatened in the 102nd minute, but his shot went wide of the goal.

In the 112th minute, Athletic developed well down the right flank and De Marcos turned to Williams, who at the last minute saw the Mallorca defender take the bite out of his mouth. One minute later, Muriqui almost scored a goal, but… Agrijapala stopped him.

The two teams went to penalties and Ernesto Valverde's Athletic won there, winning 4-2.
