Smart watches in the role of… wireless mice

Smart watches in the role of… wireless mice

A company called Doublepoint has announced a new app called WowMouse that turns your Android smartwatch into a computer mouse.

During the CES (2024), in Las Vegas, the innovative application was presented that works by shaking the hand and “squeezing” the fingers to click (similar to the double-click function of the Apple Watch Series 9).

WowMouse, available on Google Play, works by turning your watch into a mouse via Bluetooth Human Interface (HID) devices.

Doublepoint has bigger ambitions

According to Doublepoint's website, the app can run on Windows, Linux, macOS, and iPadOS. It has been confirmed to work on some Wear OS watches, such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, 5 and 6, but the company reports that tapping on the Pixel Watch has some issues. Apple Watches do not support Bluetooth HID, so Doublepoint advises that you cannot create an app for watchOS.

The company is not limited to simple mouse uses, but rather has greater ambitions. It's reaching out to manufacturers and developers to license its software to dim smart lights with the twist of your wrist, but that's not easy because it doesn't look like there will be any immediate companies that will invest the resources to support the business. The app only exists in one segment of the market, which is smart watches.
