The next big version of Windows will come in 2024, Intel confirms once again – Windows 11

Intel has hinted at an upcoming “Windows Update” in 2024, which it hopes will spur PC upgrades and increase revenue.

in Analysts Conference In September, Intel CFO David Zinsner pointed to a refresh of Microsoft’s operating system, suggesting that the release of a new version of Windows could stimulate consumer demand for newer hardware.

Zinsner mentioned that 2024 could kick off PC refresh cycles thanks to this “Windows catalyst.” His comments come after Intel documents mentioning Windows 12 leaked, sparking speculation about the next version of Windows.

Intel is reportedly preparing Meteor Lake desktop processors for the next generation of Windows. It recently announced the mobile version of its Meteor Lake processors coming later this year, which features a dedicated AI coprocessor. This addition aligns with Microsoft’s clear focus on integrating AI into Windows.

Although nothing has been officially announced, indications are that Windows 12 will include more AI capabilities. In an interview this year, a Microsoft executive hinted that AI would play a bigger role in future versions of Windows. Microsoft recently added Copilot AI to Windows 11 and emphasized more general AI features when introducing new Surface devices.

The new Surface Laptop Studio 2 has an NPU (neural processing unit) chip to enable Windows Studio effects, and by all accounts, Microsoft appears to be quietly laying the groundwork for more focus on AI in Windows.

Combined with new hardware like the Meteor Lake AI chip, Windows 12 looks poised to push the boundaries of AI. Intel hopes this will force consumers to upgrade computers, boosting chip sales.

A major new version of Windows accompanied by the release of new IT-focused processors could boost personal computer sales. Intel aims to take advantage of this “update” to boost its revenues. While Microsoft has yet to confirm the existence of Windows 12, Intel’s comments likely point to big changes on the horizon for Windows, as the PC landscape in 2024 will likely be radically different than it is today.
