Tuesday night’s shooting in the Xirokrini area of western Thessaloniki was preceded by an apparent fight between ethnic Albanians.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim and his two friends got out of a black jeep parked in the middle of the road around 10 pm and started fighting with four patrons of the hotel, who were from Albania.

At that point, a protester sitting in a coffee shop at the intersection of Ampillonon and Colonel Frisis streets apparently pulled out a gun and fired twice, at least one bullet grazed the leg. The victim, aged around 30 years.
The gunman and others involved in the incident fled the scene before police arrived, leaving the victim still bleeding on the asphalt. People from shops in the area alerted the police when a man rushed to help the injured and called EKAV stressing the seriousness of the situation. “He was bleeding and I tried to pull him until help arrived,” he told protothema.gr.
