There seems to be a growing interest among consumers in Greece in Temu, the e-commerce platform with Chinese interests that has flooded our screens with a series of promotions.
This results from related searches on Google, which have increased significantly since the beginning of the summer, having also overtaken Shein, which until recently was “holding the reins” against Amazon in Greece.
Searches for Temu started to increase from mid-July, and they were able to overtake Amazon in September and Shein in October.
Many visits, but how are we doing with the shopping?
The “newbies” in the space are trying to overthrow Amazon’s supremacy in online shopping, but it seems that they are still far behind the American giant, as more than 9 out of 10 visitors to their websites are content to look at the “store window” without passing through the cash desk.
According to similar data, Shein’s website received 28.6 million unique monthly visitors in October, up 7.25% from the previous year. In the same period, Amazon received more than 268 million unique visitors, while relative newcomer Timo reached 42 million.
However, the ratio of purchases to visits between businesses shows a huge “gap”. In particular, Amazon leads this share, as company data shows that 56% of million visits lead to purchases. This is several times higher than the other two sites, as visits to Shein’s website that led to actual transactions fell to 4.1% from 4.6% the previous year, while for Temu, only 4.5% of those visits led to actual transactions.
Temu has overtaken Ebay in Europe
Moving into the field of Android and Apple mobile applications, newcomer Temu managed to overtake “veteran” eBay in total monthly users in Europe in October. According to data.ai, Temu has reached 51 million users on the Old Continent, surpassing eBay by 4 million. However, among these applications, Shein seems to maintain its superiority, as it has also surpassed eBay since April 2023, and the number of users of the application since the beginning of the summer ranges between more than 60 million, while in October it reached 64 million.
