Turkish Navy: Big decisions for one aircraft carrier, 4 new warships and more ships, we…

At today's meeting of the Turkish Defense Industry Executive Committee at the Presidential Palace chaired by Erdogan, planning for the next constructions of the Turkish Navy was done, which is second to none in terms of size and scope.

It was decided that:

  • To pursue the design of the “National Aircraft Carrier”. Erdogan announced last year. The assumption here is that it will be a larger and improved version of the TCG Anadolu that has already entered the Turkish Navy.
  • 4 more to advance in the line of Istanbul-class warships. Built first in Turkey, it has ordered 3 more at 3 different shipyards for parallel construction, so now announces its intention to double the class.
  • Continue to purchase new offshore patrol boats. This is about the Hisar class of ships, of which the first 2 were delivered last year and it was announced that the class will reach all 10 ships. Therefore, we have confirmed that their construction will continue (no new boats announced). The boats are basically Ada-class corvettes, but with upgrades and the ability to carry heavier weapons.
  • Develop plans for new landing craft, new mines and missile boats. In all these, Turkey has very old materials and wants to improve it.

Central to all of the above, design, manufacturing and equipment will be done in Turkey. Percentage of domestic value added reaching 80% or more.

Needless to say, if the above is even partially implemented (in Turkey postponement or changes in equipment orders or changes in announcements are rare). The country's navy will be significantly upgraded in terms of number of ships, firepower, and more systems, software, etc. Exclusively manufactured locally, hence ease of manufacturing and direct support.

The third role here is to strengthen Turkey in the Black Sea, where it has already started pumping natural gas and sees a “power vacuum” that it wants to close with its own intervention.

In all of this, Greece's response has caused serious problems because it is indistinguishable. Once…
