Is recirculating air in the air conditioner the best job? – festival

Despite the fact that these two buttons, cabin air intake and air recirculation, have been on every car for decades, it seems that their use is still problematic for drivers.

So when do we use one and when do we use the other? Whether you have simple manual rotary switch air conditioning or electronically controlled automatic air conditioning (even dual-zone), the basic principles are the same here.

Air recirculation remains the most popular option in the summer, but not in the winter. Recirculating cabin air will cool the indoor environment faster on a hot day, placing unnecessary stress on the components of the device. Just don’t choose to recycle when you start, when the cabin is still hot!

However, we deselect recirculating air when the windows start to fog up. That is, on a cold winter day or a sudden summer storm.

The basic idea here is that a car’s air conditioning system should work like home air conditioners. Which recycles the air in the room, cooling it more and more, rather than bringing in warmer air from the outside environment. The same applies to the car air conditioner.

So when the question is for the vehicle air conditioner to operate quickly and efficiently, air recirculation is the only appropriate measure. We do the same and when we do not want unpleasant odors from the outside to enter the cabin, we block the entry of fresh air.

This is what vehicle air conditioning expert Tamotsu Todoroki suggests, despite the fact that what he says contradicts manufacturers manuals, which often recommend intake air as the most appropriate method of operating the air conditioner.

The reason for this is not only the fogging of the windows, but also the manufacturers’ fear of cabin air, which is becoming increasingly impure and low in oxygen, a situation that can lead to dangerous situations for passengers.

However, the popular website How Stuff Works tells us that this is a myth that has survived unfairly for too long. The vehicle is not a closed system as air passes through it even with the A/C in recirculation mode.

The site tells us that if you sit in the back of a garbage truck, you’ll soon be able to smell the stench it emits even with air recycling selected. And in any case, we always leave some windows (even a little open).

New generation electronic air conditioners automatically switch between the two functions, taking care of the freshness of the air. In some modern models there is no reset button, the sensors that monitor the temperature and humidity in the cabin work here completely independently.
