Meningitis: High School Girl in Kalamata Hospital – 14 Cases – Newsbomb – News

Doctors have assured that this is an isolated case and proper treatment has been given

A school in Kalamata has reported a fresh case of meningitis, with a high school student hospitalized.

As they say, this is an isolated case, as it was treated with proper treatment, doctors assure. The student suffering from meningitis is under constant observation but his condition is not critical.

As part of its responsibilities, the National Organization for Public Health (EODY) monitors meningococcal disease as a compulsorily notifiable disease and informs the Ministry of Health accordingly.

According to the latest update given by him, a total of 12 cases have been reported to EODY from across the country by 2024. A 20-year-old student in Patras followed suit, now in Kalamata. This brings the total number of cases to 14.

EODY especially emphasizes the great importance of early diagnosis and treatment of meningococcal disease. Citizens and especially young people should contact a doctor immediately with medical symptoms consistent with the disease (fever and rash). Physicians should provide immediate treatment and referral to hospital for suspected meningitis.
