Messolonghi: what it is and how it works The cryptocurrency mining rig found in Papi's house

A new dimension was given to the thriller story with the murder of Papi in Missolonghi since yesterday by a strange device found in his personal belongings, which looked like a router, but turned out to be something completely different: a cryptocurrency miner.

“They got this device so they could mine cryptocurrencies,” technology journalist Nikos Vasilakos explained to Mega.

Cryptocurrency mining is energy intensive and therefore almost too expensive for one person's pocket.

At the same time, he explained that this machine is capable of solving difficult mathematical equations, is equipped with powerful computer systems, and generates small or large profits for its owner.

“So someone promised someone that he would make him money. To do this, he took the money he had invested in computers. He bought expensive video cards, expensive graphics cards and expensive processors,” Nikos Vassilakos confirmed.

This small device, which connects via a specific application to phones and computers, can be obtained mainly from foreign websites. Its value, depending on the proceeds, can reach tens of thousands of euros.

Cryptocurrency farming for some cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin has become more complex over time. It requires specialized equipment and this makes it a very difficult and demanding profession. “Cryptocurrencies can be produced in many ways. Each cryptocurrency has a different use. The specific device spotted is not intended for Bitcoin,” Cryptocurrency Advisor Michalis Migos explained to Mega.
