Precision in food: Greece is first in the eurozone – the new “fire” that makes the situation worse

Accuracy is still out of control and consumer associations in Greece are concerned about the rising costs of living as food price inflation continues to grow in contrast to the general index, which has seen a slight decline.

In our country, as recorded, the estimated monthly cost for a family of four is 2,766 euros (without rent) and for a single person 807.4 euros (without rent).

The precision on the shelves is getting bigger and bigger

This is progress, as none of the government measures taken have stopped it.

On the other hand, the general index may once again be negatively affected, this time due to conflicts in the Middle East and the situation in the Red Sea. So inflation is somewhat restrained at the moment, but the precision in supermarkets is growing more and more.

“Black” first for Greece

In food, prices continued to rise by more than 7%, which brought the overall rate of increase to more than 27%, the period of the mentioned deviation on the shelves – which is now huge.

According to the latest data published by Eurostat, Greece shows a higher rate of increase in food prices compared to the Eurozone average.

Sudden rise in prices of basic products

Meanwhile, a report from MEGA confirms that there are “fiery” increases in the prices of basic products.

especially:

  • Dairy products and eggs: 2022: +16.1% 2023: +14%
  • Pork: 2022: +9.8% 2023: +15.5%
  • Sugar: 2022: +26% 2023: +25.1%
  • Olive oil: 2022: +20% 2023: +30.1%

In addition, structural inflation, which excludes sensitive energy and food prices, is disappointing. This is what ING said on the occasion of the preliminary estimate of inflation based on the euro area's consolidated consumer price index to fall from 2.9% to 2.8% in January, with structural inflation falling to 3.3% from 3.4% in December.

Core inflation, which excludes energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, fell to 3.3% from 3.4% in December, but this decline was lower than the consensus forecast of 3.2%. The higher food prices rise, the more the purchasing power of the poorest families is affected, which by definition are obliged to allocate a larger portion of their income in order to meet their basic food needs.

On top of that… “fire” in rents as well

As if all this were not enough, at the same time there is a rapid rise in rental prices. According to MEGA, rental prices are now out of reach. From 2018 until today, increases in rental prices of up to 52% have been recorded, while the increase in properties used by younger generations is shocking, as it is concluded that homes start from 50 square metres. Below, there was an increase of 63%.

For example, in the Neos Kosmos area in 2020, a house of 72 square meters was rented for 550 euros, while now it is priced at 690 euros. In Ampilukipi, a 92 square meter apartment costs 590 euros, while today its price has risen to 730 euros. However, even if someone has the financial means, it is very likely that they will find it difficult to find a home, as the availability of apartments for rent has decreased.
