Abu Dhabi, March 16 (RHC) – A study today revealed that Central America’s use of 1.4 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy per year will significantly improve the lives of its citizens by 2050.

According to an investigation by the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), for this purpose the total share of installed capacity from non-polluting sources in the regional power sector should be increased to 90 percent by the beginning of the sixth decade of this century.

The company predicts that carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 70 percent by 2050 compared to projected estimates.

Similarly, 75 per cent of the total fleet is required to be electrified, on the basis of which the use of green hydrogen is recommended as an alternative fuel for road and international shipping.

The analysis shows how better power system integration helps to get the region’s plenty of renewable energy, estimated at 10 times more than current installations.

It also highlights the key challenges in the region to achieve global access to electricity and clean technologies for cooking. Additional health and socio-economic benefits include reduced pollution associated with cooking and the benefits to women and children.

Currently, he points out, 37 percent of households in Central America do not have clean methods and fuel for preparing food.

According to Irena, the introduction of upgraded electric stoves and cookers will reduce this figure to one percent, which will require about $ 12.5 billion in technical costs over the 2018-2050 period.
