A video is circulating online that captures the moment strong 100 mph (160 km/h) winds sweep away a parked passenger plane and throw it down the stairs.
High winds tore through Buenos Aires’ Aeroparque Jorge Newbery Airport on Sunday as a deadly storm battered Argentina.
Winds swept the Boeing 737-700 of the country’s national airline, Aerolíneas Argentinas, onto the runway and slammed into the boarding steps used by passengers when boarding, sending it crashing to the ground as the plane flipped onto its side.
At the same time, the wind blew another ladder towards the vehicles used by the runway workers. The pictures show part of the wing of the plane that collided with a building.
Argentina: 13 people were killed as a result of a severe storm that caused the club’s roof to collapse
The 17-year-old plane was damaged and grounded for repairs, forcing the cancellation of its next scheduled flight to Governor Mendoza Francisco Gabrielli International Airport.
In a statement, Aerolíneas Argentinas said that due to bad weather conditions that affected the operation of Aeroparque Airport, more than 100 flights were cancelled, while the same number were delayed or delayed.
At least 16 people were killed in the storm that hit neighboring Argentina and Uruguay over the weekend, and significant damage was also caused in Buenos Aires.
