An unthinkable incident happened on Thursday afternoon (9/5) in Lamia, specifically in Barkau Square, when a 14-year-old Roma lost consciousness and fell to the ground in front of passing citizens.

According to the lamiareport.gr website, the cause of the collapse was the 14-year-old boy’s consumption of drugs given to him by older children. His body couldn’t take it, he lost contact with the environment, and next to him other children asked, “What did you do to him?” could be heard shouting.

The deputy mayor, Kostas Gerpiniotis, who was on the scene at the time, called an ambulance and the police and took the 14-year-old unconscious to the EKAB emergency department.

According to information on a local website, the 14-year-old took a dangerous drug called “salvia”, which is considered to be very popular in illegal hangouts in recent years. For economic reasons it is enriched with battery fluids and chemicals such as bleach. It automatically causes hallucinations and is believed to be the cause of many deaths in Europe as well.

The child was immediately given an antidote and appeared to regain consciousness and interact with the environment over two hours.

The district collector’s office has also been informed about the incident and the police are investigating.
