Messenger will be integrated back into Facebook

Messenger will be integrated back into Facebook

About nine years ago, Messenger appeared as a separate app from Facebook. But now it looks like Meta is ready to unite again the two apps.

We’re testing users’ ability to access their Messenger inbox from within the Facebook app, and you’ll see this testing expand soon. In practice, we want to make it easy and convenient for users to connect and share, either through the Messenger app or directly from Facebook.

In 2014, when Messenger was removed from Facebook, the company stated:

Our goal is to focus development efforts on making Messenger the best possible mobile messaging experience possible and to avoid the confusion that comes with having different mobile messaging experiences on Facebook.

Meta is also quick to reassure users, pointing out that Facebook is not dead, nor is it dyingIt currently has more than two billion users. Wanting to compete with TikTok, Meta wants to change Facebook from an app where you find your friends and family into a platform for discovery and entertainment. Or, as Facebook chief Tom Allison puts it, to make Facebook “The best place for social exploration and sharing“.

The main reason to re-integrate Messenger into Facebook is “It makes it easy for users to share what they discover on Facebook, via messages, when, where and how it suits them, without having to leave Facebook and enter another application“.
