Baker for Larissa: We live in exciting times and we’re doing our best

The developments of the flood in Thessaly are dramatic, as the danger of overflowing Phineus takes on even greater dimensions from the bad weather Daniel.

In particular, a 112 message was sent to dozens of residences in Larissa and Magnesia this afternoon (9/9), warning residents of the possibility of immediate evacuation if deemed necessary by the authorities. Residents continue to flee their homes, while rescuers in boats search house-to-house for stranded and missing people.

Among others, dozens of volunteers together with the services of the municipality of Larissa are filling sandbags where necessary to protect the houses as much as possible.

Fire department spokesman Yiannis Artobios is in the flooded districts of Larissa and describes the current situation there.

“Everybody gives their best night and day”

The fire brigade and the army are in a race against time

“The actions of my colleagues are touching. Everyone gives their best day and night. We go to vulnerable groups everywhere,” Mr. Artobios said.

Among other things, he mentioned the moments that firefighters and rescuers go through: “We live shocking moments, great difficulties but also happy moments when we see these people safe and unharmed in a very fast river. I think the moments are unique.”

Finally, a fire department spokesman was asked if there was any hope for Phineas’ condition and how the night would develop.

“There is a very large flow at very high river levels. “Whatever it is, we’ll go in and do our best, many times at risk,” he underlined.
