Elections in Albania: Freddy Peleris detained

The Avlona court decided on the pre-trial detention of Freddy Peleris.

Freddy Belleris, accused of vote-buying ahead of Sunday’s election, has been ordered to remain in custody for another 10 days before a new decision on his future can be made. The purpose of this decision is to hold elections without his presence.

He was also ordered to be transferred to Tirana prison. The mayoral candidate’s lawyers complained that it was a political decision that was sadly reminiscent of the old communist regime.

Bellaris News from Jail

“Now is the time!! I want you all on my side!! Don’t let anyone miss the polls on May 14!! We are all one and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support, love and support!! All together for change!! For the better future of our country!!”.

Heimarra mayoral candidate Freddy Peleris, who was arrested by Albanian authorities on Thursday night and detained at the Avlona police station two days before the municipal elections, sent the message in a post on Facebook.

Beleris is on the ballot

Notwithstanding the above, Beleris’ candidacy is expected to remain on his coalition’s ballot and to be voted on normally regardless of developments. It is noteworthy that this is the first case where a mayoral candidate has been arrested two days before the election.

Indeed, on Friday, Freddie Peléris’s pre-election rally was held casually without his presence, with speakers expressing hope that the mayoral candidate would win the election.

Beleris’ supporters didn’t stop chanting in support of her victory, while the expatriate candidate’s daughter Hermione closed the event and addressed the crowd.

“We are deciding the best future of our country. Now is the time to change everything, the time has come to bring about a better future. We all have a reason because we are Himarra,” said the 17-year-old daughter of Freddy Peleri.

Third arrest for vote-buying

After Freddy Beleris and Pantelis Kokavesis, another foreigner was arrested. According to reports, the former mayor of Lukovo, Vladimiros Koumis, was also arrested on charges of vote-buying.

According to reports, the reason for the arrest was to enable Edi Rama to influence the elections and select his influential people to implement his plans for the region.
