Shocking crime: A 27-year-old woman drowned her two children because they cried

A 27-year-old mother was arrested today in Begamo, Italy, accused of killing her two children, a 4-month-old girl and a 2-month-old boy, within a year.

Investigators described 27-year-old Monia Mortolotti as “intelligent, with a great ability for language, reasoning and coldness,” and that she “was unable to deal with the frustration resulting from the children’s prolonged crying” and suffocated them by pressing a pillow.

The 27-year-old was not found to be suffering from a mental disorder, so it is assumed that she acted with her full capacity of understanding and will.

According to investigations, Mortolotti allegedly killed her daughter on November 15, 2021 and her son on October 25, 2022, when investigations were also initiated by order of the Bejamo Public Prosecutor’s Office.

She says the toddler’s age and similarity to the earlier, premature death of Mortolotti’s 4-month-old daughter raised strong suspicions. Published by Il Messaggero, An autopsy was requested.

The result showed that the child’s death was due to acute mechanical asphyxiation with chest compression, which, according to investigators, was the result of a voluntary act.

In both cases, only the mother was present in the house, who reportedly gave the child milk and let him digest it in her arms until he fell asleep. By the time she took a bath, the baby had turned blue and was no longer breathing, she said.

The first death was attributed to sudden death syndrome

The coroner attributed the death to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) because he felt that the premature birth of a seven-month-old girl may have resulted in a swallowing deficit.

But the investigation revealed serious evidence of Mortolotti’s guilt, mainly because many of her statements during the investigation did not agree with what she initially told the police.

Although the little girl was born prematurely and was slightly underweight, at the time of her discharge from the maternity hospital and during subsequent pediatric examinations, she was a healthy baby, as was her brother.

During the investigation, examination of her medical history did not reveal any mental disorder, so it was assumed that she acted with full capacity and will.

After her arrest, the young woman was imprisoned after she was deemed capable of committing another crime.
